Hearts of Skid Row: Community Project

Every other Wednesday, I pop up in a community space in Skid Row and facilitate mosaic art workshops. With the support of Piece by Piece, I bring a variety of small individual projects and also encourage people to participate in group projects. In this space, unhoused individuals as well as those who are at risk of losing their homes, can come to shower, use the bathroom, get mental health counseling and other services. We set up on the stage and have been building our own art community. Some people are curious, but hesitant. Others are bold and jump right in. But what is most wonderful about these workshops is that everyone is welcome no matter what and they recognize that. These are two of the panels of hearts and we will have more to come. They will be displayed at the site, for all to see.
