"Falroid" (Meandering)
I had the amazing opportunity to be an artist in residence at the Olive Stack Gallery in lovely Listowel, Ireland for the entire month of July 2019. An incredible experience that included lodging and a full, perfectly lit studio space located in the heart of this small but mighty town. My goal was to write, practice watercolor, and create mosaic using only materials I could find locally. I had a great time sourcing local thrift and antique stores. The people were kind and generous; the food was pure and delicious; and the scenery, breathtaking. Along with my studio mate, I had the opportunity to explore local towns and learn about the history and culture, which was plentiful. Here is one of my favorite sites we visited along with a piece I created using local chipped and cracked ceramics, along with a few do-dads found around.
Work in Progress
I’m working on a smaller piece for a special commission. It’s been fun to interpret succulents into mosaic, finding just the right—or close to it—pieces. As I’ve worked on this, I’ve not only learned about succulents, I’ve enjoyed discovering the incredible range of colors succulents come in.
I created these three panels for a clinic in Fowler, California with a theme of central California crops. A lot of detail, but I think those grapes came out great. I always like to mix in some texture in my pieces. These have a mix of repurposed ceramic along with stained glass, giving each piece a little something extra.
