I had the amazing opportunity to be an artist in residence at the Olive Stack Gallery in lovely Listowel, Ireland for the entire month of July 2019. An incredible experience that included lodging and a full, perfectly lit studio space located in the heart of this small but mighty town. My goal was to write, practice watercolor, and create mosaic using only materials I could find locally. I had a great time sourcing local thrift and antique stores. The people were kind and generous; the food was pure and delicious; and the scenery, breathtaking. Along with my studio mate, I had the opportunity to explore local towns and learn about the history and culture, which was plentiful. Here is one of my favorite sites we visited along with a piece I created using local chipped and cracked ceramics, along with a few do-dads found around.

Honoring the memory of Kate Wright in Monrovia's Neighborhood Treasures Public Art Project

What a great project! Monrovia identifies and celebrates individuals who have made an impact on their community-- and sometimes the country -- by telling their stories through public art. I was so honored to create a piece about Kate Wright, a former slave who dedicated her life to serving others. With help from the community, she built small cottages on her land and took care of people suffering from tuberculosis, who had no family or friend connections. Her commitment to helping others inspired many to step forward and contribute, making the community and the city stronger.
